Archive for December, 2007
Hello, my lovelies!
I hope everyone reading this entry had a fabtabulous Christmas. I certainly had a nice break - so much so that I’m struggling to get my brain back into work mode. *hits self a bit*
I’m looking forward to the new year, though I will be sad to see this one go. 2007 was the year that finally pushed me to give up my day job and become a full time comicker, so it will always be a fondly remembered one, for better or worse! haha.
I think 2008 will be a good one though: with Korean and Italian translations of Hamlet round the corner, a short story for Tokyopop in the can, a brand new serialised comic contract in the post, the long awaited start of my Spacedog/Tokyopop contract waiting patiently in a corner, a short comic for a Tori Amos inspired anthology halfway out of the box, and of course a wedding to think about…yes - I’ll be kept busy, that’s for sure!
I thank anyone who has supported me this year, deeply, and I hope that you enjoy my work next year. ^_^
Best wishes to you all for the New Year!
(Some new images have been added to all three of my galleries)
To mark my being half way through the somewhat tedious process of compiling the graphic novel! Still, it will all be worth it and I can’t wait to see the end result!
For anyone interested, the first two issues of this series are available to read online and for free at sweatdrop.com and issues 4,5 and 6 are still available to buy in the sweatdrop shop as well. Be prepared for issues 1 and 2 being somewhat old….poor babies. ^_~
Anyways: Not too much else to report right now, but ooh, do check out Imagine FX when the new issue comes out as you may just spot me in its midst. ^_~
Well, it’s been a busy month or so for myself and also for UK manga. Today saw the release of the Tokyopop Rising Stars of Manga UK & Ireland winners…and what a bunch they are! Huge congratulations to the winners and finalists. ^_^ I have been so encouraged by the sheer quality and enthusiasm this year - it gives me utter faith in the future of the industry here in the UK.
For me, projects are coming and going. My Spacedog/Tokyopop contract has been pushed back a few months, and the Muskateers (a pitch I have been working on with writer Tony Lee) has received lots of positive feedback but again, won’t be happening right now. So, a new pitch has begun to fill the space that the muskateers leaves in my schedule…something I’m writing myself, which could be nice. Fingers crossed for that one.
I’ve had a few nice in between jobs as well, so am keeping busy. I think as a graphic novelist (which seems to be where I’m falling mostly - not that I’m complaining) it’s important to take some smaller jobs in between or you go a little mad at constantly working on things that are not seen for ages; or worse still, constantly waiting for contracts to actually start ^_~
I’m very lucky though in that the people and publishers I’m working with are all wonderful people who are very understanding and helpful - they manage to make me feel at ease despite the waiting. ^__^
On a separate note, some people will have noticed I’m not presenting Anime Network UK any more…I wish I could say more about that but, for inquiring minds, rest assured that I was not fired and that relations with the team and ADV are just fine. ^_^
So, I finish up this entry with some new art that has been added to the galleries this evening. A couple of pieces from the fore mentioned Muskateers project and also a recent private commission piece. ^_^
Take care everyone!
