Well, when I knew there was a chance I wouldn’t make the May Expo, I decided to pull up my virtua socks and get this baby in the bag.

So, you will now be able to buy it at Minami this weekend! Woot.
For me, this is a surreal book to hold in my hands. It stands for six years of comicking and displays my progress over those six years for anyone who picks it up to see. That’s six years that have taken me from being an utter n00b to the comic drawing world with issue #1, right up to my post-Hamlet freelance career with issue #6. As such, it’s a bit scary and nerve wracking, but it had to happen. This means I can finally move on with the story without always worrying about the beginnings being out of print or being impossible to get hold of.
So - it liiiives! I know several people reading this blog will remember me running around Minami like a loon about six years ago with the first printing of issue 1 in my noobish hands, so it seems very fitting that Volume one should also see it’s first public outing at the same convention. A book that’s close to my heart at a con that’s close to my heart. ^_^

Well, what should have been a twenty minute interview for the current episode of Geek Syndicate ended up with me blathering on for about an hour….why do I always do this? haha. Poor David (the host) was very patient with me. ^_^
So, if you fancy some background listening about comics, manga and all things geek - whilst simultaneously wondering how on earth I manage to talk so much without boring myself to death - head to the above link and stream or download.
I had great fun and hopefully made a few half decent points. Enjoy! ^_^
Wow!
I just got my first glimpse of the cover of eV, a book being released in the next couple of months from Tokyopop and Spacedog. I didn’t draw the inside pages, but was chuffed as chips to be asked on board as a pinup artist for the title. I had no idea my work would be featured so much and I am totally overwhelmed and honoured!
The Myspace page is obviously very new as the book’s not out yet, but if you click the above picture and head there you’ll see my illustrations all over the shop - coloured by the talented Annette Kwok - as well as some of the inside artwork and breaking info on the project. (zomg, Halcali!!) After sending the inks off, even I hadn’t seen some of these finished until now, so I’m sitting here grinning like a loon. ^_^
I’m excited about seeing the finished book as I hadn’t realised some of my pinup work would also be going in there. kweee.
What a lovely surprise!
So that’s Princess Ai and eV out of the announcement bag at last.
I wonder which TP book will win in terms of getting released first - I found the eV offer especially amusing as it’s my inititials - kind of fitting. ^_^
Good old Brigid at the mighty MANGA BLOG has posted up a bit of PR about Tokyopop’s upcoming Princess Ai anthology. And now I see the same PR in a few spots. I’ve been keeping schtum so far, but I guess if the PR is out, I can post it here ^_^
So - here’s what Tokyopop have released:
———–
Los Angeles, CA (February 12, 2008)― TOKYOPOP, the leader of the global manga revolution, is thrilled to announce the release of Princess Ai: Rumors from the Other Side. Part of the growing Princess Ai universe of properties, co-created by D.J. Milky and Courtney Love, Princess Ai: Rumors from the Other Side is a collection of untrue stories, rumors, gossip and bald-faced lies about Princess Ai and her cast of characters. Brought to you by a group of TOKYOPOP’s top manga creators, these 12 all-new spurious stories take a totally twisted view of Princess Ai and her friends!
Who would dare print innuendo and blatant lies about international rock diva Princess Ai? TOKYOPOP would! And who would TOKYOPOP enlist to create such trashy rumors? A group of our hottest global manga creators, including Misaho Kujiradou (Princess Ai trilogy), Steve Buccellato (Battle of the Bands), Ashly Raiti and Irene Flores (Mark of the Succubus), Hans Steinbach (A Midnight Opera), Armand Villavert (Zapt!), Sara Winningham (Pride & Prejudice), Emma Vieceli (Rising Stars of Manga UK), Mike Schwark and Ron Kaulfersch (Van Von Hunter), Erica Reis (Sea Princess Azuri), T Campbell and Amy Mebberson (Divalicious), Che Gilson, Brett Uher and Mara Aum (Dark Moon Diary), Pauro Izaki (Princess Ai of Ai-Land comic strips) and Kim Mi-Kyung (11th Cat for Ice Kunion).
According to TOKYOPOP Editor-in-Chief Rob Tokar, “Princess Ai: Rumors from the Other Side is another manga first for TOKYOPOP, but considering that Princess Ai has always been a groundbreaking project, ‘unique’ should be expected! Since Ai is an outspoken, outrageous, controversial celebrity (with wings!), it wasn’t hard to find incredible stories from people who love her, hate her and love to hate her.”
Verif-Ai the rumors when TOKYOPOP’s much-anticipated Princess Ai: Rumors from the Other Side arrives in stores nationwide in March 2008!
————————
I drew a very short story written by the lovely Sarah Winningham. It’s a pity Tokyopop spelled my name wrong in the release, but I guess I can’t blame them…curse my confusing name. hahah. I’ve adjusted in in the text above. ^_^
Anyways, any Ai fans out there should enjoy the collection. I love anthologies in general so can’t wait to see it. ^_^
Site appears to be back in business - thank you Mr Fehed ^_^
You’ll have noticed some downtime recently; this is due to some issues with the sweatdrop server where my site is hosted. We’re getting back on top now with thanks to the tech crew.
I’m keeping busy as always:
Anyone who’s been reading ImagineFX will have spotted my mug in there. Other than that I’m mainly working on my serialised comic whilst also dipping into design ideas for my next SelfMadeHero book. All news as I can share.
A quick message:
A huge hello to anyone I saw at the Tokyotoys store in London’s Trocadero centre today. What a wonderful way to spend chinese new year, and what wonderful company. A great day filled with great people. ^_^
So - it’s good to be back, folks.
