Violet all ready for the DFC

Next week (issue 13), Violet finally hits the pages of the DFC! WOOOO! Her run starts with reprints of her Guardian strips, but in just a couple of weeks’ time we’ll be starting on the actual Violet storyline. I really hope you can join the revolution and go subscribe to this amazing weekly comic….make Violet happy ^_^

Yep - the good ship MAAN is steaming away and I just completed a batch of 30 finished pages yesterday. *much rejoicing* Just 160 odd to go *wilt*
But - I feel up to the challenge!

While I get on with that, I wanted to share a taste of how the book is shaping up so far with you.

I’ve been working in spreads rather than single pages thanks to Manga Studio’s lovely page setup, so it feels weird seeing single pages here in the previews, hehe. The tone has done interesting things to page 1 when shrunk to a jpg, but you get the idea. ^_~ As you can see, this time we’re not in Space - hehe - but in the mountains of Italy, 1860.

So yeah - it’s all go. As always, graphic novel work can get very lonely *sniff sniff*, so I appreciate all of the nice comments so far, really! ^_^

Sadly, I couldn’t make it to San Diego Comic Con, but I have been reading some wonderful reports on reactions to the Comic Book Tattoo anthology that I was a part of. I am so excited about seeing the book itself I can’t explain. As many people know, I’m a huge Tori Amos fan, so my interest in reading the book is not only as a creator but as a raving fangirl as well. ^__^

A huge well done to the members of the team who made it over to SDCC and did such a great job of promoting it. And as always the hugest well dones have to go to Rantz Hoseley for putting the whole thing together and to Tori herself for being the inspiration that she is and for allowing us crazy comic creators to get our hands on her work.

Goodness how the time flies…

Well, I just realised it’s been a month since my last post - bad Emma!

What can I tell you other than that I’ve been working hard on Much Ado About Nothing?
Real life has had to take quite a priority at the moment, with my wedding just around the corner, but work continues of course. I’ve been enjoying the pencilling stage hugely, as it’s given me a chance to chill away from the computer with a sketch pad, but it’s about time I got on with some inks - so alas, I’ll need to chain myself to the PC very soon.

Here are a few sneak peaks of the messy, pencils stage. ^_^

Announcing my new Shakespeare GN!

CLICK HERE FOR THE SELFMADEHERO WORKBLOG

Way back in the day, when Sonia and I were working on Romeo & Juliet and Hamlet respectively, we created a livejournal workblog to chart our progress on the books….well, a couple of years later it’s time to dust that blog off and fire up the engines as I can now announce I’ve started work on Much Ado About Nothing for SelfMadeHero!

I think some of you may have guessed this and some have mentioned the title and left me desperate to tell you, but yes - that’s the one!

I’ll introduce the first of our key players here, but any further updates will be at the workblog only for a while as it feeds through to the official Manga Shakespeare ning.
Click the thumbs for larger images, and check the workblog for details on who these four are. ^__^

I’m working on the rest of the coloured section and will be meeting up with the fabulous Richard Appignanesi in a week or so to start bashing script ideas around. As with Hamlet, it’s a play I know and love well and we’ll work hard to make it the best we can!
